Dr. Un’s research lies at the intersection between technology and innovation management and international business.  Specifically, she analyzes how R&D investments, technological collaborations, and the management of people impact innovation and knowledge creation in multinational corporations (MNCs).  Recently, she started investigating how technology offshore outsourcing influences firm performance.

Her research won the 2002 INFORMS Best Doctoral Dissertation Award for technology management research. Some of her research can be found in academic journals such as Journal of Product Innovation Management, Research Policy, Research Technology Management, Advances in Strategic Management, Journal of Innovation and Technology Management, and  British Journal of Management

Her reviews on related topics can be found in Administrative Science Quarterly.  She serves on the editorial board of Organization Studies.

At the Moore School, she has taught courses at the undergraduate, MBA and PhD levels.  Some of these courses are Exploring Global Business Issues, Cross-cultural Behavior and Negotiations, Business in Asia, Business in Japan, and Seminar in International Management.

Before coming to the University of South Carolina, Professor Un was a faculty member at Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management, where she was the Air Products Corporation Faculty Fellow for research on technology and innovation management. There she taught courses at the MBA and PhD levels, such as International Management, International Competitive Strategy, Strategic Management of Multinational Firms, and Knowledge Management.

After earning her MBA at the University of Notre Dame and prior to earning her PhD at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, she worked in the United States for the Ford Motor Company and in Japan for the Kowa Pharmaceutical Corporation, Mainichi Shinbun, and Shoshisha Publishing.
