Office of Career Management

Moore Professional Series

When Moore students finish their chosen program of study, they are highly trained and knowledgeable, thanks to top-notch faculty and curriculum - but, what about after graduation? How can Moore students leverage this competitive advantage to land the right job at the right time?

The Office of Career Management recognizes that for most of our prospective students, this is the bottom line.  For this reason, a comprehensive Career and Professional Development process is integrated into the academic schedule and requirements. This series is called the Moore Professional Series, and is designed to develop the whole person in preparation for making well-informed, appropriate career choices.

Career Management

Basic career management education is at the core of all of our Office of Career Management initiatives. We believe that each student should graduate with the ability to:

1)  complete a successful job search and,
2)  map and manage their career path throughout their professional lives.

Why is this so important?
Past studies have indicated that the average professional will change jobs 7 to 10 times over one's lifetime.  In reality, however, it could be more often because of industry trends, downsizing, or economic conditions. The professionals who know how to effectively manage these inevitable changes in the context of their lifelong career goals will be more successful and more satisfied professionally.

The Moore School  believes that our students deserve a cutting-edge business education. In addition, we bring a heartfelt commitment to helping students develop these job search/career management skills. To that end, we partner with one of the worlds leading Outplacement firms, Lee Hecht Harrison, to provide a practical, step-by-step look at the key job search areas. Topics include:

  • Resume Development
  • Interviewing Skills
  • Job Search Planning & Research
  • Networking Techniques
  • Negotiating Skills
  • Lifelong Career Planning

Business Presence

Etiquette07_01Being smart is not enough. A strong intellect is necessary to get in the door, but once “in,”  success depends on much more – we call it "Boardroom Presence".

The Office of Career Management is committed to enhancing our students’ boardroom presence by providing a series of experiences and activities designed to educate and "grow" them.

The bottom line... We know you’re smart or you wouldn’t be considering Moore

Simply put... The Office of Career Management wants to be sure our students have the opportunity to use their intellect in fast-track leadership roles in the organizations and corporations that interest them most.

Personal Development

CaseComp07_Thailand01The Office of Career Management believes self awareness is the key to better understanding what career paths will be the most fullfilling To accomplish this, we take students on an introspective journey as they consider various career and industry options.

For IMBA and MHR students, this journey is navigated by a comprehensive, robust assessment tool that has been used in industry for more than 50 years – The Birkman Method . Each student completes the Birkman Method questionnaire within the first few weeks of school. Individual results are reviewed, evaluated, and assessed in various contexts and at increasingly deeper levels throughout  the Series. For other student populations, similar assessment instruments are available to facilitate career exploration and to acheive a stronger level of self-awareness.

The student that takes full advantage of these personal growth opportunities will leave the Moore School, not only with a top-notch degree, but also with a more complete understanding of who they are and what they bring to a leadership role.

In the end, each Moore graduate student leaves us with a unique competitive advantage: the self-awareness and professional presence needed to plan and manage a life-long career. The training provided at Moore is not found anywhere else.
