International Management

Participants receive substantive knowledge of international management, with a focus on the management of the multinational company (MNC's). Various pedagogical approaches and teaching techniques are introduced to prepare faculty members to teach a course in international management. The seminar addresses the typical organizational and managerial issues faced by MNC's such as the balance between global integration and local responsiveness, the challenges of building good relationships between parent companies and foreign subsidiaries, and the factors of success for the career of the international manager. Emphasis is placed on the topic of national culture and its effects on international management as well as on the pedagogical challenges of teaching culture.

International Accounting

Participants are provided an overview of issues typically included in an International Accounting course. The focus will be on comparative accounting and harmonization, financial accounting and reporting, management accounting and control in foreign operations, and taxation of international activities. In addition to discussing the content of these topics, pedagogical tools used to cover this material in the classroom are discussed. Faculty members will be well equipped to teach a full course in international accounting, or simply integrate international topics into existing courses.

Survey of International Business

This seminar provides an overview of virtually the entire field of international business, including what's unique about it, what drives it, and how it's done. Topics covered include: the macro/environmental aspects (international trade and investment, international monetary system, global and regional organizations, government policies, national cultures, etc.); the micro/managerial aspects (international accounting, international finance, global manufacturing and materials management, international marketing, and international management); and how the two dimensions influence each other. This seminar is especially appropriate for those who want to know more about the entire field of international business, and how their functional area fits into it; or for faculty who may be teaching such a course.

This seminar features discussion of international marketing concepts and strategies, including organizational issues, international segmentation, and the influence of culture.
