FACULTY DEVELOPMENT IN INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS JUNE 9-14, 2008  

The Faculty Development in International Business (FDIB) seminar series at the Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina, is the oldest and most highly regarded program of its kind. The goal of the program is to internationalize business school faculty, preparing them to teach international business courses.

FDIB is a series of 6 concurrent seminars. Each participant chooses one seminar and spends a week with some of the top faculty in the international business field developing both professional knowledge about the particular topic and the pedagogical skills that will enhance teaching of the subject.

We are fortunate to have the intellectual capital associated with a world-class business school. Our graduate program in international business is the top-ranked public university program in the country and No. 2 among all U.S. schools, according to U.S. News & World Report.  This is the 18th consecutive year the school has been ranked either 1st or 2nd. Moore School ranked No. 1 in the undergraduate international business specialty for the 11th year and 41st among business schools nationally in U.S. News & World Report's survey of "America's Best Colleges." Moore School of Business is ranked 49th among the top B-schools in The Wall Street Journal's "Regional Ranking" as part of their "Best Business Schools" issue September 17, 2007. This ranking is based on a survey of corporate recruiters.

The school features one of the largest Ph.D. programs in international business in the U.S. and since 1989, USC has continuously been funded and designated a "Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) ® by the U.S. Department of Education.

Business school faculty have completed a global international business curriculum survey for the Academy of International Business (AIB).

Six seminars are offered in this four and a half day format. There is a welcome reception on Monday, June 9th from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and the seminar sessions begin on Tuesday, June 10th at 8:30 A.M.  Classes will meet Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday 8:30-4pm, and Saturday 8:30-12pm.

Program Fee

The full program fee is $2,075 in US Dollars. A 15% discount is available to schools sending 3 or more people. The program includes instruction, a comprehensive materials package, breaks, daily continental breakfasts, lunches, Monday night welcome reception, and Friday evening dinner. Please note that the full fee is payable in advance, or in lieu of payment, a purchase order or similar authorization may be submitted at time of registration. Make checks payable to "USC Business Partnership Foundation." International participants may make arrangements to wire transfer fees at the time of registration.

Scholarships

The Center for International Business and Education Research (CIBER) offers a limited number of $500 scholarships for each course. Scholarships will be granted based on an application process and review by the USC CIBER administration. Applicants for the scholarships are required to make a $500 deposit prior to admission. If an applicant is not granted a scholarship and chooses to cancel his/her registration, the deposit is fully refundable if a refund is requested at least 14 days prior to program start.

Acceptance into this limited-enrollment program will be based on the date applications are received. Applications should be submitted by May 26, 2008. No shows are liable for the entire fee. Applicants who request a refund after May 28, 2008 will be assessed a service charge of one-half the program fee.

Location & Accommodations

Seminars will be held at the Daniel-Mickel Center for Executive Education, Moore School of Business, on the Columbia, SC campus of USC. An opening reception will be held Monday, June 9th. Information on the Columbia area, as well as a course schedule, will be sent to you upon receipt of your completed registration. The Moore School of Business is bounded by Pendleton, Barnwell, and College Streets. If you are planning on driving to the school, the parking lot is located on the corner of Pendleton and Barnwell Streets. Please park at a maroon colored bagged meter. After check-in, a parking pass will be issued if needed. Accommodations are not included. However, the following three hotels are offering discounted room blocks for seminar participants.  Applicants must make hotel reservations before May 9th, 2008 to receive hotel discount.  Please use reservation code "FDIB" when making your reservation.

 

Airport

Columbia, South Carolina is serviced by Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE). General airport information phone number is 803-822-5000. Airport is approximately 20 minutes from the University of South Carolina.

Attire

The attire is business casual to casual. Outside the temperature can range from the low 70's to the 90's and is usually very humid. In the seminar rooms and dining facilities, it is often too cold for some and too warm for others; therefore, we recommend that you wear clothing in "layers" so you can easily adjust to conditions.
