Together, We CAN!

If you believe that higher education is important to the future of South Carolina, now is the time to let your voice be heard.

Each year the State Legislature considers dozens of bills that directly affect higher education.  In these tight-budget times, legislative support for public higher education continues to erode in South Carolina  an alarming trend that jeopardizes the very programs that help move the state’s economy forward.

You can influence the legislative debates.  Let your state senators and representatives know that you firmly support quality public higher education.  The Carolina Action Network (CAN) will help you become an effective voice for positive change in South Carolina

When you join CAN, you will play an active part in letting elected officials know how you feel about selected legislative issues, particularly those that affect higher education.  Members include alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends of the University.

No meetings or membership fees are required.  You commit as little or as much time as you wish.  You will be notified when issues arise.  Then, using prewritten e-mail messages and letters (which you can freely modify), you inform your legislators of your position on important issues.  If you wish to take a more active role, CAN will provide guidelines for calling representatives’ offices or  will arrange a personal meeting.

For more information about CAN, and to see sample letters and guidelines, visit the Carolina Alumni Association site at www.CarolinaAlumni.org/advocacy.  You can make your opinion count.
